Its finished [ensemble summer cover]() places Luffy at the centre, while Akane-banashi opens the magazine with the lead colour. The print and [Japanese digital edition]() were released on 10 August for ¥330. Kohei Horikoshi's 61-page one-shot Quit Laughing, Shijima sits second with a centre-colour opening. Someone Hertz and Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi receive the other centre colours, with Kiyoshi beginning a two-issue colour run. No weekly serial begins or ends. The issue still produces a coherent kind of movement. Its strongest chapters ask what inheritance requires from the person receiving it. A school, a civic ritual, a captain's dream and a family of swordsmiths can all survive their founders. The long one-shot changes the physical balance of the magazine, but it does not occupy a permanent slot. Someone Hertz follows its recent upper placements with a centre colour, and Kiyoshi receives the first of two consecutive centre colours. Those are present-tense promotions, not proof of future security. All four selections below were first published in this Weekly Shonen Jump combined issue; the MANGA Plus links provide international access. ## Zensho weaponises the role that diminished him > [!WARNING] > **Spoiler: Spoilers through Akane-banashi Chapter 218** > > [Akane-banashi Chapter 218]() gives the lead-colour position to a performer the story has trained its audience to distrust. Zensho helped the new Arakawa school escape its early reputation as little more than unlicensed rakugo by taking its performers into mass-market television comedy. Issho and the current Shiguma inherited the prestige. Zensho remained the clown who made that prestige possible. > > His resentment is not separate from his technique. Zensho enters wearing an elaborate Issho disguise, wins a laugh through imitation and then tells everyone who laughed that they are expelled from the school. The gag turns Issho's infamous mass expulsion into material and resets a room that has already heard two heavy performances. Pettiness becomes crowd control. > > Zensho then chooses Time's Up, the emotional story previously associated with Maikeru. That selection promises a test of range, but the chapter stops before the story proper begins. Chapter 218 proves that Zensho can seize the room and makes him central to Akane's search for Shiguma's Art. It does not yet prove that he can carry the tragedy he has selected. The available [English-language discussion]() repeatedly arrived at reluctant respect: readers who still disliked Zensho admitted that the disguise and expulsion gag worked. That response identifies the chapter's cleanest achievement: Zensho does not ask to be liked before demonstrating why his unwanted role mattered. ## Horikoshi puts sacrifice through city hall Shueisha describes [Quit Laughing, Shijima]() as a boy-meets-girl horror one-shot. The description is accurate at the level of premise and imagery, but incomplete as a guide to its shape. Horikoshi begins with social dread and ends with a supernatural rescue story. > [!WARNING] > **Spoiler: Full spoilers for Quit Laughing, Shijima** > > The one-shot's most unsettling object is not one of Horikoshi's creatures. It is a modern form headed Regarding the Sacrifice. Shijima has been selected as her city's Pesca Princess, a public honour that conceals a tradition of offering young women to the sea. Officials, police, old families and her own household preserve the ritual through contracts, civic language and compensation. Most residents do not know the truth; the people with authority have made it administrative. > > That structure complicates Shijima's apparent consent. She calls herself lucky and treats selection as an honour because the city has taught her how a chosen sacrifice should feel. Azumi telling her to stop laughing is therefore more than a request to drop a character quirk. Her loud laugh dismisses the questions the institution cannot comfortably answer; his intervention asks her to separate performed happiness from a choice she actually wants. > > Horikoshi gives that argument an immediate visual language. Vast creatures sit inside realistic streets and water, Shijima's ceremonial hook becomes a bone-like weapon, and the previously sacrificed women join the climax instead of remaining passive symbols. The local story closes: the Deep Dweller is defeated, the sacrifice ends and Shijima leaves home with the contract's compensation. > > The final third also narrows the horror. A police pursuit, flood, confession, historical explanation and battle arrive in quick succession, and the last rooftop image recasts Azumi as a hunter of other unseen remnants. That ending is expandable enough to resemble a chapter-zero pitch, but MANGA Plus labels the work a one-shot and no serialisation has been announced. The [main English-language thread]() split around the same transition. Creature design, the central relationship and the bureaucratic ritual received broad praise; readers disagreed over whether the action climax fulfilled or diluted the horror setup. That disagreement is more useful than a simple success verdict. The one-shot's strongest horror is institutional, while its ending returns to Horikoshi's familiar language of intervention and hope. ## What is handed down is still a choice One Piece and Kagurabachi approach legacy at different scales. One deals in an era-defining dream; the other in one family's blades and damage. Neither treats what passes between generations as an automatic command. > [!WARNING] > **Spoiler: Spoilers through One Piece Chapter 1190 and Kagurabachi Chapter 128** > > [One Piece Chapter 1190]() lets Gaban stop a fight with Imu to reprimand Luffy. Wanting to save a friend's country does not excuse dying carelessly when an entire crew has placed its lives behind him. The Pirate King's position attracts people who would celebrate its holder's death; the ambition requires responsibility as well as freedom. > > Gaban also rejects blind obedience to Joy Boy. Roger's former crew support Luffy because they chose to see their own captain's dream completed, not because a distant predecessor issued an order. His lost arm then turns that choice into a physical cost and deliberately recalls Shanks. The chapter argues against passive destiny, but it also creates an obligation for the series: the consequences Gaban names now need to matter beyond the lecture. > > [Kagurabachi Chapter 128]() brings the same problem down to one family. The Masumi accuse Kunishige of ignoring both the country's decision and Chiaki's choice because he wants to rescue her. He connects his fixation on swords to family blood, his mother's collapse and his shame at failing to protect the people closest to him. > > Shiba's return prevents that confession from hardening into solitary martyrdom. Badly injured and inspired by Mashiro's earlier endurance, he takes the Masumi out of Kunishige's path and preserves the work at the forge. His intervention materially contradicts Kunishige's belief that he has protected nobody: the relationships around the swordsmith are already choosing to protect him and what he might still make. The visible English response to [One Piece]() concentrated on Gaban finally challenging Luffy's protected path, while the [Kagurabachi discussion]() welcomed Shiba's return and the continuing weight of Mashiro's example. Both responses focus on intervention rather than lineage itself: the burden matters because somebody chooses to act. ## The break becomes part of the pull There is no new Weekly Shonen Jump issue on 17 August. The [No. 39 preview]() schedules the magazine's return for 24 August with One Piece on the cover and in the lead-colour slot. Ichi the Witch and Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi receive centre colours, the latter completing its two-issue run. No. 39 also carries [War vs. Peace](), a 36-page The Promised Neverland extra chapter by Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu. The story is set after the completed manga and marks ten years since its serialisation began. That is a confirmed return, not a revival of the weekly serial. ## Hot because old forms are under pressure No. 37-38 earns a Hot reading through concentration. Akane-banashi turns a disputed elder's resentment into stagecraft. Horikoshi returns with a substantial one-shot whose modern institution is more disturbing than its monster. One Piece and Kagurabachi make old obligations answerable to present choices. It stops below Landmark because the line-up does not permanently change. No serial begins or ends, Quit Laughing, Shijima has no announced continuation, and the combined break is scheduled publishing rhythm rather than editorial upheaval. The issue matters because established forms are being argued with, not because any one of them has been replaced. The previous three entries tracked Jump's bench, Roku's promotion and the chapter that justified it. This combined issue widens the question.
