The 2027 Anime Calendar Is Taking Shape

Kagurabachi, Frieren, Sakamoto Days and THE ONE PIECE have official 2027 windows. Several other headline sequels do not.

The official 2027 calendar has clear January, April and October landmarks, while several major sequels remain undated. Off Model

The 2027 anime calendar already has a recognisable shape. January is crowded with returning series, April brings Kagurabachi, and October has Frieren and Delicious in Dungeon sharing the same fantasy-heavy window.

It is also being padded with assumptions. As of 22 July 2026, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3 and Kagurabachi are genuinely confirmed for 2027. Solo Leveling, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, Chainsaw Man’s Assassins Arc and the next Demon Slayer film are real productions, but none has an official 2027 release window.

This is a set of editorial highlights rather than a claim to list every television sequel, romance adaptation or franchise film currently carrying a 2027 label. Exact premiere days and international platforms remain unannounced for most of them.

January starts with a concentrated sequel run

Sakamoto Days Season 2, Shangri-La Frontier Season 3, Mashle: Magic and Muscles Season 3 and Akane-banashi Season 2 are all scheduled for January. The month also has further confirmed returns including the joint BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! and Ave Mujica sequel, Medaka Kuroiwa Is Impervious to My Charms Season 2 and Red Cat Ramen Season 2.

That clustering makes January the first obvious pressure point of the year. It is less a single blockbuster moment than a test of how many established series viewers will continue at once, especially when several exact start dates and overseas schedules are still missing.

THE ONE PIECE remake becomes a seven-episode event

Netflix has placed THE ONE PIECE in February 2027 and clarified what its first release will contain. WIT Studio’s new adaptation will cover the manga’s first 50 chapters in seven episodes, totalling roughly 300 minutes, with all seven released at once.

That is a more specific proposition than “One Piece, but newer”. The production is revisiting the East Blue material while the long-running Toei series continues, and Netflix’s compact batch gives viewers a direct point of comparison between two very different approaches to adapting the same opening chapters.

Kagurabachi leads the new adaptations, but LONA may be the surprise

Kagurabachi will begin in April 2027, with Crunchyroll already confirming a simulcast. Takeru Hokazono’s sword-action manga is being produced by Cypic, directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi and designed for animation by Keigo Sasaki. The exact April date, episode count and complete regional list are still open.

The launch is international from the outset: the official campaign includes English-language channels, a world tour and a Crunchyroll simulcast. The production question is how Cypic translates the manga’s tightly controlled action composition into movement.

April will also contain the second cour of The Apothecary Diaries Season 3, following its first cour in October 2026. That split schedule is officially announced even though the exact April start date is not.

The less predictable spring project is LONA, an original WIT Studio television anime about a research laboratory analysing the brains of the dead in a damaged near future. Akiko Nogi created and scripted it, Takashi Katagiri directs, and The Promised Neverland artist Posuka Demizu provided the original character concepts.

Other first-time adaptations broaden the year beyond familiar brands. The Bugle Call: Song of War brings Sora Mozuku and Higoro Tomori’s Jump SQ. fantasy to television through the new CyberAgent studio CA Soa. Kindergarten WARS is set for spring, while Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is scheduled to stream through Crunchyroll at some point in 2027.

October pairs Frieren with Delicious in Dungeon

Frieren Season 3 will adapt the Golden Land Arc from October 2027 on Nippon TV’s network. The announcement names the arc and centres its teaser visual on Macht, but does not yet provide an exact premiere day, episode count or international streaming plan.

Delicious in Dungeon Season 2 is also set for October. The official notice also lists Netflix and other services for streaming, but does not give a territory-by-territory timetable.

Putting both in the same month gives autumn a clear fantasy centre without making the two shows interchangeable. Frieren is moving into the named Golden Land Arc, centred on Macht; Delicious in Dungeon is continuing the journey left unresolved after its first 24 episodes.

Several large returns have a year, but not a season

Dandadan Season 3 is officially scheduled for 2027, with Science SARU continuing as the animation studio. One-Punch Man Season 3’s second cour, The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5, Laid-Back Camp Season 4, The Dangers in My Heart Season 3 and Oblivion Battery Season 2 also have official 2027 announcements.

None of those year-only announcements should be squeezed into a guessed winter, spring, summer or autumn slot. They make the calendar deeper, but they do not yet help viewers plan a season.

The film calendar has one exact date and several large placeholders

Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant is officially due in 2027, alongside the special anime Haikyu!! バケモノたちの行くところ. The announcement confirms the year but not the film’s Japanese opening date, the special’s release format or an overseas schedule.

The Medalist theatrical film, The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes and Kyoto Animation’s The Credits Roll into the Sea also carry 2027 Japanese release windows. Shingo Natsume’s original Madhouse film ghost / 夜の果て is the rare exception with a precise opening: 11 February 2027 in Japan. None of these announcements yet establishes a Cyprus release.

Announced productions without a 2027 window

Solo Leveling is continuing as a film titled Beyond the System. Its July announcement confirms theatrical production after Season 2, but gives no release year. It should not currently be described as either Season 3 or a 2027 film.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: Culling Game Part 2 is in active production and has a teaser containing new footage. The official update names Takeshi Sato as director, but does not announce a year or broadcast window.

Chainsaw Man’s Assassins Arc has also received a new teaser. Official material calls it an anime continuation without identifying it as Season 2, a television series or another film. Its format and date remain unknown.

Demon Slayer’s Infinity Castle was announced as a theatrical trilogy, so two films remain planned after Chapter One: Akaza Returns. The next entry still has no standalone title, visual or release date. A claimed 2027 opening is speculation until Aniplex, ufotable or the official franchise site says otherwise.

Gachiakuta Season 2 is officially in production, and new footage was shown at Anime Expo in July 2026. Neither update announced a release year. Crunchyroll’s current distribution notice explicitly lists its release date as “to be announced”, so Season 2 belongs on the watchlist rather than in the confirmed 2027 calendar.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is also underway, but Netflix’s latest first-party listing says only “Coming Soon”. No official 2027 window or delay into 2027 has been announced. Netflix describes it as an adult animated series rather than a Japanese anime production, but its audience overlap makes it a sensible adjacent title to keep on this watchlist.

All four projects could eventually land in 2027. The distinction is that their production announcements do not support that conclusion yet. Keeping them on a watchlist is more useful than giving readers dates they may later have to unlearn.

A strong year without borrowing from rumours

The confirmed calendar already has distinct clusters: returning series in January, THE ONE PIECE on Netflix in February, Kagurabachi and LONA in spring, and two fantasy sequels in October. The selected film slate is less settled, with most titles carrying only a year.

That unevenness is the useful pattern. 2027 already spans long-running franchises, newer Jump adaptations, a game adaptation and an original WIT Studio series, but large parts of the year remain open. Keeping undated productions outside the calendar leaves later announcements room to change its shape instead of merely confirming a schedule built from rumours.
