Reborn of the Phoenix Maps Fantasy and Craft Across Pano Arodes

On Saturday 8 August 2026, Pano Arodes will host the first Reborn of the Phoenix, a four-hour festival built around fantasy, local legend and a playful interpretation of the medieval past. It runs from 18:30 to 22:30 throughout the Paphos village rather than inside a single venue. Admission and participation in the advertised activities are free, with no age restriction.

That distributed format is the event’s most distinctive idea. Visitors are invited to follow a route through named locations, workshops and performances, allowing the stone lanes and village landscape to do more of the world-building than a conventional fairground backdrop.

A village becomes the venue

The organiser’s programme description begins at the “Gates of Arodes”. From there, visitors can choose between locations including the Tree of Wishes, House of the Enamoured Nymph, Hospitallers’ Apothecary and Crusaders’ Stone. The old spring and Astro Park are also described as performance or gathering points.

Pano Arodes supplies a specifically Cypriot setting through its stone streets, local legends, vineyards and associations with the Knights Hospitaller. The programme mixes that history freely with invented fantasy. Nymphs and mysterious creatures sit beside medieval dance, contemporary light performance and a village quest. It should be approached as participatory folklore and fantasy entertainment, not as strict historical reconstruction.

Battles, quests and workshops

More than 15 interactive locations are announced. The published programme includes staged battles between knights and warriors from different eras, archery, medieval dance, a village quest, live music, storytelling and street performance. LED and fire shows are planned alongside circus activity, an open-air cinema and children’s entertainment.

Mosaic work and a medieval dance workshop are named directly. Medicinal herbs, installations, local food and winemaking are used to connect the fantasy route with the village’s present-day craft knowledge. Astro Park is described as a sunset stop with local wine, music and stargazing later in the evening.

The maker connection

For Off Model readers, the overlap lies in handmade objects, costume, role-play and the transformation of a real place into a temporary fictional setting. These are adjacent to the practices found at comic conventions even though the event itself is not an anime, manga or comics convention.

The official festival page invites vendors producing self-made creative work and crafts to apply for space. A charity fair and local food and drink are also confirmed. What I hope to find

The item I would most like to discover is a piece of costume or prop craft connected to the festival’s medieval-fantasy setting. It does not need to be a large display prop; a small handmade accessory or object that shows how its maker interpreted the setting would be enough. No participating prop maker has been announced, so this remains a reason to explore rather than a promise about what the stalls will contain.

What remains unconfirmed

The organisers had not published an accepted maker or food-vendor roster by 22 July. No product categories, prices, stall count, participating winemakers or payment arrangements are confirmed on the public programme. A charity fair is named, but its beneficiary, fundraising method and wares are not.

Individual performers, the battle groups involved and a timed route schedule also remain unpublished. Nor is there public information yet about parking, public transport, accessibility between locations or the distance required to complete the route. Those details matter for an event that deliberately uses an entire village as its venue.
